landscape design 2002 Prof. G. Kiefer -– In the district of Friedrichshain in Berlin, the remaining segment of the former Berlin Wall reaches from the East Train Station to the Oberbaum Bridge. This relict was over painted with images by international artists after the collapse of East Germany in 1989 – the East- Side Gallery. The design stages the East-Side Gallery in a spatial context. The exterior public space is structured in long strips running parallel to the Wall, and cross connections – pedestrian bridges and underpasses, which connect the spaces on both sides of the Wall. The East-Side Gallery Park serves as a historical attraction of Berlin, the spatial experience of the former border with the Berlin Wall and the East-Side Gallery, and enables the visitor a stay in the urban context.
